Order of the UT

Service organization for former UT Summer Orientation Advisers and any UT Exes who may remember the Orange Bull, particularly from the 60's and 70's. Makes me tired just to think that far back.

Barry ... greetings ... thanks for keeping the ball rolling ... I can think of no place that I would rather be than with/at the mythical Royal Order of the UT ... much like the knights of the Round Table ... after so much time you have ask yourself ... did it and what it/we stood for really exist ... and who was Lancelot ... the reunion was indeed mythical and mystical and marvelous ... all those M words ... should the site be ... The Royal Order ... that would be my vote .... /pete

Wow! The Reunion at the Union was a smash. Horns won another squeaker, and the before and after parties were astounding. Check out the 100's of photos on the UT Summer Orientation '65-'75 network at UTOrientation.org.

From Ronnie Volkening and Jack Balagia

Fellow Members of the Royal Order of the UT:

This mailing list represents my most complete compilation of former Orange Bull regulars. If you did not receive the original e-mail, please read below to get brought up to speed. If you can forward this on to others not on this list, please do so. Jack Balagia and I think this would be a sure-fire great event if we weren’t the ones planning it. Those of you who remember us know what we mean. But we muddle on anyhow and hope you will join us the weekend of October 24-26 (Longhorns v. Oklahoma State weekend). Our plans haven’t jelled much beyond those from the note below. The numbers are not quite set in stone yet, but it would be helpful if each of you would respond to this e-mail and let me know if think you might be interested and able to attend:

1. The Hors d’oeuvres and Cocktail Party at the Sinclair Suite in the Texas Union on Friday Evening, about 6:30 -9:00 p.m. (approx. $25/person); and
2. The Brunch at the Oasis Sunday, perhaps 11:00 am -1:00 pm (approx. $30/person)

And if anyone has a great idea for a possible Saturday activity or postgame get-together, please bring it forward. The footballs are flying and it’s time to return to Austin for a weekend of reverie and reminiscin’. Y’all come!

Subject: Are you from Brownwood?

From out of the fog comes the clarion call of the Royal Order of the UT. Well, actually Jack Balagia and I were just thinking that after about 36years, give or take, it might be time to have a party (We were, after all, Co-chairs of the SCOOP Non-Academic Affairs Committee). Here’s the deal: The Texas Union is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this fall on the weekend of October 24-26th. Jack and I have reserved the Sinclair Suite in the Union for Friday evening the 24th in the hopes that we might be able to attract members of the Royal Order of the UT, circa 1969-1972, for an evening or weekend of reunion and communion at the Union. The Horns play Oklahoma State in Austin that weekend but we will not know the game time until a few weeks before, making Saturday planning problematic.

A rough agenda might include: Friday evening at the Texas Union Sinclair Suite;Saturday on your own until 1 hour after the game, assuming we find a site for gathering; then Sunday “brunch” at the Oasis (the food is no better than you remember, but the view cannot be beat). Or some variation that more accomplished planners than I might devise. You have been chosen, due to your leadership positions in your respective communities and because we found your e-mail addresses from the Union files, to give us some feedback as to the level of interest in such a Reunion.

Gentle Reader, for the moment concern yourself not with details but rather reply to this missive to indicate your possible interest and availability to:
a) attend such a reunion, AND
b) assist with contacting others, contribute your planning expertise, etc.
