Last week my wife and I had our baby boy and it was the most incredible and interesting experience in my life to date. There are so many things that are going on in such a short amount of time and it seems like everything happens in some kind of time warp!
I noticed that our friends that we can really count on are the ones that still call us after the dust has settled to make sure that everything is still okay. Making sure that our baby is healthy, asking us if they can do anything to help us out, wanting updates and pictures. They want us to know that they are there for us no matter what.
These are the people that I want to include in my life - in all parts that are applicable, because they truly WANT to be in mine. These are the people that I will go out of my way for, and apparently, vice versa. To flip this into a business conversation, these are the people that I would happily approach when I need their help from a business services perspective. I would give them the first chance and probably the only chance until they told me that they didn't want my business or they couldn't handle it for one reason or another.
This tells me that maybe the best time to reach out to my prospective clients is when they don't need it. It is still pursuing them when times aren't perfect and money isn't flowing freely (kind of like now) and letting them know that I am here...for help...for anything. It is about our relationship and understanding that once that is built, the business will come.
How can I help you today? Not to put money in my pocket, but to make you feel successful today? What do you think you will need tomorrow? Would you like my help? Do you know how to reach me if you change your mind and need to get in touch with me? What are you the most excited about right now and what are the you most scared of?
I am here. I am not going anywhere. I know exactly what to do if you decide that you need my help. I am the best there is at helping you solve your problems when the time comes up. I truly care about your success when the budget is there. But for now, I just want to make sure that you are okay. I want you to know that I am right here no matter what.
